Following Luca's work for a long time, the opportunity of a stay in Bordeaux was too good to go talk about perfect white tee-shirt and vintage made in USA!
Hello Luca, can you introduce yourself?
My name is Luca and I create content about clothing and the psychology of clothing. I've been living in Bordeaux for a few months now after years in Paris.
Can you tell us a little more about your activities?
On the video side, I mainly create content on Youtube!
In parallel and since 2019, I send every Thursday at 11:30 a.m. a newsletter that talks about the psychology of clothing, its social relationship. The content before was more focused on the choice of clothing, like "How to choose a white tee shirt?" for example. Today I like to talk more about the sociological dimension, the motivations for buying a garment or a piece.
We have also just opened a platform with exclusive content: video, events, round tables or access to all newsletters. Since we just stopped all commercial deals on this newsletter, I also propose to my friends brands to offer things to the readers on this platform.
I also sometimes create products in collaboration with brands - a bag with Le Feuillet or shoes with Max Sauveur - and I am a marketing consultant for brands.
I see you have a lot of vintage pieces in your closet.
I buy very little new actually. Whenever I wear something, I like to wear it for me and not for the others and the image it reflects. I love vintage for that, there is always a story associated with the clothes.
And I also have a hard time throwing away my old T-shirts. (laughs)
Where do these pieces come from?
Most of my vintage pieces are made in the USA. Either from my parents' travel souvenirs from the 80s and 90s or from pieces I've hunted down.
I have a lot of American college T-shirts and sweatshirts. I find the grain of these vintage made in the USA models crazy, there is a real thing.
And I love the American spirit, I'm very Kansas guy in general (laughs).
What are your favorites?
My mom bought this Simpsons t-shirt in the US in the 90's, I even used it as pajamas when I was a kid and I thought it was so cool when I found it. Well it's all yellowed now but I still think it's cool!
There is also this San Diego or Georgetown t-shirt that I love. Then these big American sweatshirts, I'm dying of heat in them even in the middle of winter because they are partly made of polyester but I love them!
I also had a Walt Disney period but the vintage made in the USA craze - and especially for universes like Mickey - is so big nowadays that pieces are getting more and more expensive and finding them has become difficult and very time consuming.
Do you wear a lot of printed pieces?
More and more!
I see you also have two stacks of white t-shirts.
White T-shirts are what I wear the most. I have a use for each type of white t-shirt and I actually have two piles with two of each (laughs).
For wearing it alone, I like white tees that are a little rough and thick like the Pro-Club. It's a real American tee with a weird fit, tight at the neck and super wide at the bottom.
To tuck the shirt into pants, I'll buy oversized instead.
As a support under shirts, I prefer tee-shirts with a fluid weight like Muji for example.
And I also really like textured tees, like this one from Maison Cornichon; it's tubular knit made on old machines, the grain is super cool.
